Chapter 1

In this chapter we find Jack Greenberg, a civil rights attorney, on the Orange Blossom Line, talking to his boss, Thurgood Marshall, of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. "People stared when the two men, one black, and one white, entered the dining car." A few people left, as a man said "A Nigger."

Side Note: Who was Thurgood Marshall? He was the director of the NAACP during the Civil Rights Movement. He went on to become the first African-American member of the US Supreme Court.
